Xentra’s team of Frontend Developers, Backend Developers, App Developers, and QA staff, undergoes training focused on both app and web development, and API security. The initiative for this skills advancement emphasizes Xentra’s continuous effort to ensure that it produces work with the highest standards of development that is matched with the highest level of security.

Apart from enhancing the security and quality of its applications, Xentra aims to upgrade the skills of its workforce and allow them to become more acquainted with security. To achieve this, Xentra’s team is taking an APIsec University course for skills advancement this August.

About the APIsec University Course

Xentra allowed its team to enroll in the OWASP API Security Top 10 and Beyond! course administered by the APIsec University. It is a 90-minute online course that provides a deep-dive into the 2023 edition of the OWASP API Security Top 10 – and covers key concepts that weren’t discussed in the Top 10.

The course includes ten modules about Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) API security. Topics include Broken Object Level Authorization, Broken Authentication, Broken Object Property Level Authorization, Unrestricted Resource Consumption, Broken Function Level Authorization, Unrestricted Access to Sensitive Business Flows, Server-Side Request Forgery, Security Misconfiguration, Improper Inventory Management, and Unsafe Consumption of APIs.

The training with APISec University enables Xentra’s team to become proficient in API Security for PCI Compliance, API Security Fundamentals, and API Penetration Testing. In fact, after each team member completes the course, APIsec conducts tests to validate the participants’ understanding of what they’ve just learned. At the end of the training, a certification is issued for each participant as proof of their completion of the course.

The Importance of API Security Training

With the OWASP API Security Top 10 and Beyond! course offered by the APIsec University, Xentra aims to upgrade the skills of its team and make them competent in API security.

Xentra’s Chief Strategy Officer, Brett Radford, emphasizes the importance of educating and training developers on API security. According to him, “API security protects functionality, data, and reputation of applications and services. For this reason, API security is a crucial aspect of API development. This also means that API developers need to know the vulnerabilities, threats, and risks that affect APIs. More importantly though, API developers should know how to prevent or mitigate these issues.”

Radford added, “With the API security training that Xentra’s developers and QA team members will receive, Xentra’s applications and services will be developed with a security mindset which will reduce the chances of misuse, errors, or breaches.”
